Taking three titles at the 2008 Evening Standard Homes & Property awards including the coveted Gold Eros award, this small residential development of exclusive detached houses is located in the area of Woodham, which is approximately 2km north east of Woking town centre. The site area extends to approximately 0.95 of a hectare, amongst mature trees and backs onto the Basingstoke Canal.
The development was for 9 high quality new homes, which reflect the typical ‘Arts & Crafts’ style present in the larger adjacent properties. The proposal, being of 2 and 2.5 storeys blends in with the massing and scale of adjacent dwellings with similar eaves and ridge heights. The density of trees and shrubbery to the rear gardens helps to shield the new development from the canal.
The designs have a variety of finishes consisting of facing brickwork to walls, brick headers to windows, chimneys and banding, render to walls, tile hanging, plain tiles to roofs, white finished casement windows and feature woodwork. Built to a high specification, each of these homes included a ground floor study, open plan kitchen and conservatory.
