White Waltham
Grove Park
Formerly part of the adjacent White Waltham Airfield which was used for training and testing prior to and during World War II, Grove Park Business Estate was still using some of the original huts for commercial use which were considered inadequate for modern requirements.
In addition to a replacement Nursery at the front of the site, the application for 79 houses was approved at committee on 16 November 2022.
Many of the trees on the frontage and within the site are protected by tree preservation orders and the nearby Conservation Area needed to be considered in relation to views along Waltham Road.
Although the site abuts the airfield, none of the existing runway alignments or aircraft circuits pass over the site. A large retained Sweet Chestnut tree and open space at the entrance to the site create the focus of the development, leading to the existing central axis avenue of pear trees which retains an element of the site’s former use.
