OSP have been collaborating with CALA Homes South Home Counties on a residential development comprising of 350 new homes on an 18.77 hectare (46.38 acre) site. The site is located on the eastern edge of Westergate with access from Westergate Street. The three villages of Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate are located on the Sussex coastal plain, east of Chichester in West Sussex.
The vision for the overall development is for a sustainable community, arranged in attractive and well-designed neighbourhoods which positively relate to the surrounding villages and West Sussex landscape, delivering major benefits to the local community and environment. It is envisaged that the new community will be surrounded by a new country park and enhanced green spaces with new, high quality homes provided in leafy, green and attractive neighbourhoods.
The proposed development will provide 350 high quality new homes and affordable housing in a range of sizes with a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, and two, three, four and five bedroom houses to meet local need.
It will create sustainable new residential neighbourhoods with a ‘Garden village’ character, the new homes being predominantly detached, semidetached and in short terraces to reflect local form with a mixture of 2, 2.5 and 3 storeys in height. Individual development parcels will be contained by retained trees and hedgerows, where safe and attractive movement routes are integrated.
The development will create a network of informal, shared surface streets and lanes within the development, with the retention of landscape features within the site and new surface water attenuation features and associated landscaping. A community orchard and proposed allotments are incorporated at the northern end of the masterplan.
