Planning Success in the Surrey Hills

February 2026

Waverley Borough Council has recently granted planning permission to our client Crownhall Estates for a new off grid carbon neutral family house, contained within the footprint of a former Victorian reservoir.

The site offers a unique opportunity to provide an exemplary new dwelling within a beautiful natural setting in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV). Careful planning and design have ensured that the landscape is preserved, including the ancient woodland bordering the site, and there are expansive views out across the landscape.

Natural light is modulated via a series of carefully sized windows and a large lightwell courtyard bringing daylight into the heart of the building. The floor plan maximises the natural characteristics of the setting, with principal rooms taking advantage of light and views, with more private and enclosed areas located to the north of the building.

The new house is all on one level and provides 500 sqm of habitable space, together with a courtyard and terrace.
