OSP have designed 5 new cottages on a Green Belt site off Vann Lane in Hambledon for clients Hawksmoor Homes. The proposals replace a series of derelict industrial buildings and return this site on the fringe of the AONB back to an appropriate rural character. OSP provided planning and full technical services for the scheme that is now in the process of being built.
The site is located on the southern side of Vann Lane and to the west of Hambledon House on a brownfield site within the Green Belt and Hambledon Conservation Area A. The existing access serves the industrial units within the site and a number of other existing dwellings, being largely screened by the existing tree belts to the east and west.
The revised cottage designs are more in keeping with the local vernacular and incorporate many traditional features, such as oak framed porch canopies, banding around windows and sweeping low level roofscapes in high quality plain tiles. Single storey elements and dormer windows also give additional articulation to the elevations, reducing the perceived scale of the cottages and a softened edge of the built form against the Green Belt.
